Simple Chess Game Viewer - Troubleshooting

If you get a white screen when you launch Chess Game Viewer, follow the steps on this page.

1. Get the Right Browser

Some versions of the "SBC" or "Yahoo" browser do not work with Chess Game Viewer.

We recommend Firefox (formerly Netscape) which you can download for free here:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

We do not recommend the AOL browser because it limits screen space. Try Firefox or Internet Explorer instead.

2. Get the Java Update

There is an easy way to find out if Java is installed correctly.

Go to http://www.java.com. You'll see a title that says Free Java Download. Just below that, there is a link that says "Do I Have Java?". Click that to see if you have the current version of Java. If not current, you will be prompted to install an update.

3. Let Your Browser Use Java

You may need to tell your Web Browser that it has permission to use Java.

If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tools - Internet Options - Security and click "Custom Level" and go down to SCRIPTING and turn on

"Active Scripting" - ENABLE

and

"Scripting of Java Applets" - ENABLE

... and click "Save Settings".

4. Allow "Popups"

Make sure your browser is allowing "Popups" when you load the Chess Viewer.

5. Check Your Firewall

Zone Alarm, Norton Utilities, and other firewalls can interfere by blocking Active Content.

Try setting permissions for the domain (main.uschess.org) in your Firewall. Allow "Active Content".
